Codes for Roofing

All NM construction codes refer to and are drawn from these three international code books. There
are distinctions between residential and commercial and new construction versus existing buildings
throughout all of the following codes, so you have to get familiar and do your research

All codes instruct contractors to follow manufacturer’s recommendations for installation. This is a key
point, and if followed properly, then provides the contractor with a limited amount of protection

Then you have the NM CID code which provides exceptions and additions to the above codes

For general construction, and much more

Then you have local jurisdiction code which provides exceptions and additions to the above
codes (can be more stringent than the NM CID, but not less stringent )

Las Cruces, Farmington, Hobbs, Clovis and other municipalities will also have their codes and they
should be available on-line. At the end of the day, manufacturer recommendations are the foundation
for construction and the codes add to or modify those recommendations.
